Commission Terms & Conditions
Thank you for considering Shel's Shabby Chic for your bespoke commission.
Whether you're commissioning the transformation of a cherished piece of furniture or a handcrafted homeware item, these Terms & Conditions explain how commissioned work is managed from quotation through to completion.
By accepting your quotation and paying your booking deposit, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions.
Consultation & Quotation
Every bespoke commission begins with a consultation to discuss your ideas, style preferences and the finish you'd like to achieve.
For furniture commissions, consultations are carried out wherever possible in your home so I can see your furniture and advise on colours, finishes, wallpapers, hardware and decorative details. If this isn't practical, consultations can also take place using photographs, measurements and video calls.
Following the consultation, you'll receive a written quotation outlining the agreed work.
Booking Your Commission
Bespoke commissions are booked into my commission diary on a first-come, first-served basis.
A 50% non-refundable booking deposit secures your agreed start date and allows me to begin preparing for your project, including sourcing any specialist materials where required.
Your booking is confirmed once the deposit has been received.
The remaining balance is payable before your completed commission is collected or delivered.
Design Process
Every commission is a collaborative process.
I'll work closely with you throughout your project, discussing colours, wallpapers, hardware, metallic finishes and decorative details to ensure the finished piece reflects your vision.
Where appropriate, colour charts, samples and progress photographs may be provided during the transformation.
My aim is not simply to transform your commission, but to create a beautifully finished piece that feels perfectly at home in your interior and can be enjoyed for many years to come.
The Bespoke Nature of Your Commission
Every commission is individually created by hand to your agreed specification.
Furniture commissions involve transforming your own furniture, while bespoke homeware commissions are individually handcrafted especially for you.
Because every commission is created specifically to your personal requirements, work cannot be cancelled or refunded once it has commenced, unless required by law.
Throughout the process, I'll work closely with you to ensure the agreed design is followed and that you're delighted with the finished result.
If you'd like to make changes after work has begun, please let me know as early as possible. Depending on the stage of the project, this may affect both the completion date and the final cost.
Working with Vintage Furniture
I specialise in transforming original vintage furniture.
Vintage furniture naturally carries signs of its previous life, including minor marks, repairs, variations in timber and evidence of age. These characteristics form part of its charm and individuality and should not be regarded as defects.
Hand-painted artisan finishes may also include subtle brush marks and slight variations in texture or colour, reflecting the handcrafted nature of each commission.
Bespoke Homewares
Every handcrafted homeware commission is individually made by hand.
Slight variations in pattern placement, metallic detailing and finish are part of the handmade process and make every commissioned piece beautifully unique. These natural variations are not considered defects.
Additional Work
Occasionally, previously hidden repairs or issues only become apparent once work has begun.
If this happens, or if you request changes to the agreed design during the project, I'll discuss the available options with you before carrying out any additional work.
No additional charges will be incurred without your prior agreement.
Timescales
Each commission is unique, so completion times vary depending on the size and complexity of the project, product availability, drying and curing times, seasonal humidity and my existing workload.
An estimated completion date will be discussed during your consultation and confirmed when your booking is secured.
If unexpected delays occur, I'll keep you informed throughout the project.
Completion, Collection & Delivery
Once your commission has been completed, I'll contact you to arrange collection or delivery.
Completed commissions should normally be collected, or delivery arranged, within five days of notification.
Where commissions remain uncollected beyond this period, a storage charge of £10 per item, per week may be applied.
If a completed commission remains uncollected for 30 days without prior agreement, Shel's Shabby Chic reserves the right to recover reasonable storage costs and take appropriate action regarding the uncollected item.
Inspection on Completion
Please inspect your completed commission as soon as it is collected or delivered.
If your commission has been delivered by courier and you notice any damage to the packaging or the item itself, please:
- Inspect the commission while the courier is still present.
- Notify the courier immediately of any visible damage and ensure it is recorded where possible.
- Photograph both the packaging and the damaged area of the commission.
- Contact Shel's Shabby Chic within 24 hours of receipt, providing photographs and details of the damage.
Prompt notification gives me the best opportunity to investigate the issue with the courier and work towards a satisfactory resolution.
Caring for Your Commission
Every completed commission is professionally finished using premium-quality products selected for durability and longevity.
Full aftercare guidance, including curing times and care recommendations where applicable, will be provided with your completed commission to help you enjoy it for many years to come.
Photography
I love documenting the transformation of every commission.
Unless you request otherwise, photographs of your commission before, during and after completion may be used on my website, social media channels, newsletters and other marketing materials.
If you would prefer your commission to remain private, simply let me know before work begins and I'll be delighted to respect your wishes.
Governing Law
These Commission Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Changes to These Terms
Shel's Shabby Chic reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions from time to time. Any revised version will apply only to new commissions placed after the updated version has been published.
