Part of the post-war CC41 Utility Furniture range (a collaboration between Harris Lebus and the Government's Board of Trade).
Every detail of this timeless masterpiece invites you to contemplate the stories it holds; it makes you wonder who sat at it and what they wrote: war documents, music, novels, love letters, diaries … this desk is a stunning window to the past, with the echoes and words of the countless writers who went before us.
Hand-painted in Farrow & Ball's French Grey, a soft and serene pale green, that will fit into so many different design schemes.
The inspired addition of the delicate metallic silver details and reflective silver rose foils that grace, not only the drawer fronts, but also the delicately curved interior and writing surface, add a touch of whimsy and exquisite detailing.
But this bureau is more than just visual splendour. It fuses beauty with practicality, offering two deep storage drawers and a concealed mini drawer within a lockable compartment.
Each drawer front showcases silver rose foils that catch the light, adding a touch of magic that complements your existing décor.

Interestingly, there's a large pencil signature on one of the drawer bases (perhaps belonging to the carpenter), lending to its authenticity.

Your beautifully restored bureau has so much history, approximately 80 years of charm and character in fact! As with all vintage furniture there’s the odd imperfection, but nothing that detracts from its beauty or practicality.
DETAILS
This vintage piece has been sympathetically refurbished and retains the original handles. In addition, the dovetail joints are accentuated to highlight the craftsmanship involved in their construction.
The silver rose foils have a rustic finish, and as with any lady of this age are showing spots, lines and imperfections, but that's exactly the way they are supposed to look.
The handles, hinges and hardware, down to the last screw head, have been cleaned and treated with coats of liquid silver metal to match the bureau perfectly.
Your key even comes with an elegant silver tassel.
