1-to-1 Furniture Painting Workshop for Beginners | Stotfold
Treat yourself to a day of creative “me time”, learn valuable new skills and take home a beautifully transformed piece of furniture — created by you.
My private 1-to-1 Furniture Painting Workshop in Stotfold, on the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire border, is designed especially for beginners who want to learn how to paint and upcycle their own furniture. You'll learn how to prepare, paint and finish your piece properly, building the practical skills and confidence to tackle future furniture transformations at home.
You'll work on your own small piece of furniture, with my full attention and guidance throughout the day. No previous experience is necessary — we'll work through the process together, step by step.

What Will I Learn?
Working on your own furniture means you'll learn the complete process of preparing, painting and upcycling a real piece, rather than practising techniques on sample boards.
Depending on your chosen piece, we'll cover:
- Choosing the right tools
- Cleaning and preparing furniture properly
- Assessing surfaces and minor repairs
- Sanding and priming
- Choosing the right products and tools
- Furniture painting techniques
- Creating a smooth, professional finish
- Decoupage with wallpaper, where appropriate
- Adding metallic details, where appropriate
- Protecting and caring for your finished furniture
- Troubleshooting common problems
You'll also have plenty of opportunity to ask questions about future furniture projects you'd like to tackle at home. There are no silly questions!
What Furniture Should I Bring?
You'll need to bring one small, manageable piece of furniture that can realistically be worked on during the day — and, importantly, will fit back into your car afterwards!
A bedside table, lamp table, plant stand or similar small piece is ideal.
Original wooden furniture is best for learning furniture painting and upcycling techniques. IKEA-style, flat-pack or predominantly MDF furniture is not suitable for this workshop. If you're unsure about your piece, please get in touch before booking and I'll be happy to advise.
What Do I Need to Bring?
I'll provide the paints, materials, tools and equipment you'll use during the workshop, along with refreshments.
You'll need to bring:
- Your agreed piece of furniture
- A packed lunch
- Old clothes suitable for painting - layers are best
- A smile for the camera
We'll usually carry out the cleaning, preparation and sanding outdoors before moving inside for the painting and finishing stages, so please dress appropriately for the weather as well as for getting creative.
